"Play The Sun Before Dawn" is a work in progress project where Nick has begun to explore his family history through the story of his distant relative, Mansio Serra Leguizamon, known as "The Last Conquistador." Nick investigates legends of greed, trauma, and colonialism tied to this ancestor. In Peru, he found remnants of this past, including the site where a golden sun idol was lost in a gamble—an event that inspired the project’s title.

Nick also traveled to Serra’s birthplace in Spain, exploring archives, museums, and historical sites in Basque Country, Bilbao, and Seville. Through this journey, he questioned colonial narratives and reflected on how Inca strength and resilience endure today. These photos form part of a larger exploration of his heritage and the legacy of colonialism in South America.
