December 2015

Adam has just been back to Calais to look at the refugee situation after being there a year ago for a commissioned project for Sky. He found the situation much worse in only a year, the camp is now sitting on muddy open ground, next to a motorway and several kilometres of tall fences. There’s a heavy CRS (French riot police) presence and they regularly throw gas canisters into the camp to maintain order and to stop people getting to the trucks waiting to board the morning ferries. it’s meant to be a transient place, but once there, it feels like it’s impossible to move on.
